An approach to determining the frequencies and modes of free vibrations is proposed for the compound systems of shells of revolution with different geometry and relative thickness. The shells are made of isotropic, orthotropic, and anisotropic materials with one plane of elastic symmetry and are continuously and (or) discretely inhomogeneous across the thickness. This approach includes the construction of a mathematical model of vibrations based on the classical Kirchhoff–Love theory, refined Timoshenko type theory, 3D elasticity theory (partial case), and numerical-analytical technique of solving the associated 2D (3D) problems by reducing their dimensionality and using the methods of successive approximations and step-by-step search in combination with the orthogonal-sweep method. The examples of solving the problems from various fields of engineering are presented.

For the problem on evolution of the nonlinear elastic plane longitudinal and transverse waves of displacement, a statement is proposed, an analysis of numerical results is carried out, and a data is compared. The 18 variants of initial parameters are studied numerically – two variants of composite materials, three variants of the wave bottom length, three variants of initial maximal amplitude. For each variant, the 3D plots «displacement – passed by wave distance – time of wave propagation» are built. An attention is concentrated on difference in evolution of longitudinal and transverse waves.

Two variants of reduction of oscillations of structures with liquid are considered. The controlling algorithm, which includes analytically determined compensation of force interaction of liquid with structure, is proposed for reduction of oscillations of the carrying structure. In this case with minor errors it is possible to reach the state, when the structure motion occurs as if the liquid becomes solidified. In the case of seismic excitation of the system motion it is suggested to use pendulum suspension of the system instead of its rigid fixation. Specificity of selection of the length of pendulum suspension is discussed. The use of pendulum suspension results in considerable lowering of force interaction of liquid with structure and reduction of waves on a free surface of liquid especially for high-frequency excitation. The adduced numerical examples show advantages of the suggested technique.
